Monsoon To Spread Across Country Within Two Days, Heavy Rainfall Predicted In Many Places

Kathmandu, June 13: Monsoon that entered Nepal on Saturday is expected to spread across the country in a couple of days.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) on Saturday has announced the onset of monsoon in the Gandaki province and the eastern part of Lumbini province.
Likewise, start of the monsoon was declared by the MFD in Province 1, 2 and Bagmati Province.
The monsoon entered Nepal from the Eastern part of the country after a low pressure was developed around the Bay of Bengal.
The MFD in its weather bulletin on its website has also predicted that within this week most parts of the country will receive ‘light’ to ‘moderate’ rains with many parts to receive ‘heavy rain’ with a few parts expected to receive ‘very heavy rain.’ The MFD has urged the people to be cautious. 
According to Nepal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority portal, the districts of Arghakhanchi, Salyan and Pyuthan have already experienced landslides since yesterday.
According to a report from the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), out of all the reported landslides from 1950 – 2009, relative to population  Nepal has the highest fatality rate in the world with regards to landslides standing at 71.1 per million. 
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has predicted more than average rainfall in Nepal this year.
