Kathmandu, June 9: Monsoon that entered Nepal on June 5 is yet to take widespread spectrum across the country as it is still lying in the region of Province 1, Meteorology Office said Wednesday.
“The widespread range of monsoon still seems to take three to four days to get expand across the country and it is still in Province 1 region of eastern Nepal,” Ganga Nagarkoti, meteorologist at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said Wednesday.
Kathmandu and other Bagmati and western parts including Pokhara of Gandaki province are yet to see the full range of monsoon, she said.
“Wednesday’s rainfall witnessed in the Kathmandu Valley and some other parts of the country is not the cause of the expansion of monsoon across the country but it was due to the impact of local phenomena developed within the region,” Nagarkoti said.
In the past 24 hours, Kathmandu recorded 32.5 mm rainfall and 41.7 mm, the highest rainfall, occurred in Pokhara and 40.6 mm in Taplejung as the third highest rainfall, according to the meteorological forecasting update of the DHM as of 6:00 pm. Nagarkoti said that there is currently the general effect of monsoon winds in the eastern part of Nepal and local winds in the central and western parts of the country and the east-west low pressure line developed in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar of India.
According to the update made by the DHM this evening, thunderstorms occurred in some parts of Province 1, Madhes Province, Bagmati Province, Sudurpaschim, Karnali and Gandaki Province and partial to normal cloud cover in the rest of the region.
There is a high probability of light to moderate rain including thunderstorms in these regions. The monsoon enters Nepal from the eastern part and gradually extends to the west.
