Humla, July 6: A solar mini-grid has started generating electricity in Yari, in the north of Namkha Rural Municipality-5. The area is still out of reach of electricity delivered through national grid.
The generation of electricity has started after the installation of solar panels at the place where the mini grid is installed. District Advisor Birendra Thapa said that the mini-grid has generated 50 kilowatts of electricity in the third phase of the Rural Water Resources Management Project.
He said that electricity has been generated and distributed to more than 17 households and the work is on to distribute electricity to other households.
After the construction of the mini-grid, the locals, who used to use oil lamps, have now been able to consume electricity for the first time.
As the area produces good amount of mustard, an oil processing machine is planned to be installed after the availability of electricity.
Last August, an agreement was reached with the construction company for the construction of the mini grid, but the work was halted due to snowfall.
The agreement was signed to build the project at a cost of Rs. 30 million, with the rural municipality sharing 20 per cent, consumers ten per cent and the project 70 per cent.
Similarly, the work to supply materials for the mini-grid in Hilsa of Namkha Rural Municipality-5 for the construction of a mini-grid is underway. Around 100-KW mini-grid is being constructed for Hilsa.
The project has said that electricity will be generated by completing the connection work by mid-August, this year. The Rising Nepal
