Khajuria, Oct 8: As many as 4,000 households have been displaced due to floods and inundation in Banke district. Chief District Officer in Banke, Surya Bahadur Khatri, informed that some 50 houses were damaged by the floods and inundation in different parts of the district.
However, no human casualty was reported. Most of the places suffered from floods.
Three hundred houses were displaced from Chauferi, Krishi Chauferi and Panjha villages of Duduwa Rural Municipality-1; some 3,000 from Tikulipur village of Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality-2, 300 from Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolis-20, 100 from Khajura Rural Municipality, and 400 from Narainapur Rural Municipality, according to Rupan Gyawali, Information Management Officer at Emergency Operation Centre.
Those displaced by the floods are staying in safe shelters. A rescue team of police rescued three persons stranded on river bank beyond Rapti River this morning.
CDO Khatri informed that the respective ward offices are managing dry foods to those displaced since Friday. The District Disaster Management Committee was to hold the meeting at 12:30 to expedite rescue, search and relief distribution activities.
The floods have heavily eroded river banks. The rainfall has been gradually declining. (RSS)
