Route construction to Everest summit from tomorrow

Kathmandu, Apr.16: The construction of the route to reach the summit of Mount Everest will start on Sunday. A team of icefall doctors had completed the construction of the route from Khumbu icefall, a dangerous route to Mt. Everest, to the second camp 6,400 meters high on April 7.

Chhang Dawa Sherpa, Expedition Manager at Seven Summit Treks said that construction of the route which will start on Sunday will be completed by May 20-25.

The route constructed work is being operated under the leadership of legendary climber Kami Rita Sherpa.

Sherpa informed The TRN Online that with the construction of the summit route, the climbers have reached the second camp from the base camp beating altitude sickness, and are all set to the summit.

Seven Summit Treks Private Limited, under Summit Operators Association, has shouldered the responsibility to construct a route from the second camp to the peak.

The trekking company has stated that it is preparing to build the road to the peak by fixing 11,000 meters of rope.

The Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) has been charging 600 dollars per climber and the  Expedition Operators Association of Nepal(EOA) charges 200 dollars making 800 dollars for climbing the submit.

“A route to Everest is constructed by Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) with a team of icefall doctors, Angsarki Sherpa of Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC), along with Dawa Nuru Sherpa, Pemba Chiring Sherpa, Soman Chiring Sherpa, Chewang Nuru Sherpa, and Nima Galgen Sherpa.

This year, the construction of the ascent from base camp was started on March 20, and has been completed earlier as well,” said the climbers.

The committee has informed that the route of Khumbu Icefall has been constructed by connecting two seven-meter-long ladders.

More than 50 ladders are used in the construction of the Khumbu icefall route. The route to the peak is followed through Sagarmatha, Lhotse, and Nuptse Mountain from Khumbu icefall.
