Ex-PM Marich Man cremated at Aryaghat

Photo8KATHMANDU, AUGUST 15 – The last rites of former Prime Minister Marich Man Singh Shrestha were performed at Pashupati Aryaghat this evening. Contrary to expectations, full state honors with Army’s gun salutes were too much too ask for the incumbent government to bestow upon the late former Prime Minister.


The cabinet meeting held this morning had decided to make arrangements of Nepal Police to carry the body of the deceased Shrestha and to present garland of honor to him under the command of Police Inspector.


However, the police team that had reached at the cremation site in Shresth’s last rites was sent back by his well-wishers who expressed strong objection to the government’s purported state honors.


Shresth’s son then had lit the funeral pyre prior to which RPP Nepal chairman Kamal thapa wrapped the body of former prime minister with Nepal’s national flag. Shrestha, who was battling with lung cancer, passed away at around 3 this morning at Norvic Hospital in the Capital this morning at the age of 71.
