Opposition party youths surround PM’s residence demanding resignation

KATHMANDU – Different 17 youth and student organizations associated with the opposition political parties surrounded the Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar, today.

The organizations, including those affiliated to opposition parties Nepali Congress and CPN- UML, which have been launching phase-wise agitation against the government, surrounded the official residence of the Prime Minister for an hour from 9:00 am with the results of voting held on August 16 on for or against the government.

Security situation at the Baluwatar area was tightened since morning in view of the students’ demonstration.

People and officials were hit hard due to the disruption of transport services following the students’ demonstration.

A total of 1,526,835 votes were cast across the country either in favour of the current government or in favour of a national consensus government.

Of the votes, 1,487,310 votes were cast in favour of a national consensus government and 19,801 were cast in favour of PM Bhattarai led government while 19,724 votes were invalid.

According to Spokesperson at the Nepal Students Union (NSU), UP Lamichhane, one hour long picketing of Baluwatar with the results of the voting was concluded. He said the result has been pasted on the wall of the prime minister’s compound.

Earlier, the Youth and Student Unions had also submitted the result at the Office of the President. Lamichhane said that they requested the President to take measures on the basis of the people’s opinion from across the country. RSS
