news
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has asserted that some forces demanding the reinstatement of monarchy in the country was an attack on public, their humiliation and a criminal activity.
In the meeting of the Republic Day Main Organizing Committee held in the Ministry of Home Affairs today, PM Oli underscored the need to make the Republic Day a cause for celebration among the public.
The Republic Day which is observed on the 15th Jeth every year in Nepali Calendar. This year, the Day falls on May 29.
Stating that democracy and republic were established in the country after a long struggle of the people, Oli viewed, “The day should be observed as a celebration in each and every family.” He opined that public should be aware and alert that some regressive forces were on the prowl and were demanding reinstatement of monarchy.
According to him, principal of inheritance on the basis of birth and seniority practiced in the monarchy was a hypocrisy. He argued, “Republic is the face of the democracy. It’s a competitive system.”
President’s mention is right
On a different note, PM Oli commented that President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s mention of ‘My government’ while presenting government’s policies and programmes for fiscal year 2019/20 on May 3 was in line with the international practice.
Oli cited that other Head of the States in foreign countries including India had been addressing ‘My government’ while presenting government’s policies and programmes and it was legitimate for the Head of the State to address the democratically elected government in that manner.
Furthermore, he urged one and all not to misjudge the President’s statement as he argued saying her ‘my government’ was as blanket statement as used in ‘my language’, ‘my country’ and the like.
The PM claimed the comments on President’s remark on ‘my government’ was appropriate in comparison to the usage of the same word during the monarchy as he argued the President was elected by people while in monarchy, the ruler would be selected on the basis of seniority and birth. RSS
