Nepalgunj, June 16: The number of people staying in various quarantines in Banke district has been declining for the last few days.
A few days ago, there were 108 quarantines, 13 isolation hospitals and centres in the district, but now most of the quarantines and isolation are getting empty.
With a large number of people coming from India, around 10,000 people have been kept in 108 quarantines in the district. However, some 7,221 people have been sent to their homes after their swab report for coronavirus tested negative, according to the health office in the district.
According to Naresh Shrestha, Coronavirus Focal Person at the health office, out of 323 people who tested positive for coronavirus in RDT and PCR tests in Banke, 202 have returned home after treatment and 120 are still recovering. A man from Narainapur died of coronavirus a few weeks ago.
At present, quarantines have been expanded in the district to accommodate 6,046 people at a time. Isolation hospitals and centres have been set up to accommodate 403 people at a time, Shrestha said.
The pressure in the quarantine has been declining as the number of people coming from India is declining.
Comfortable holding centres
As the pressure on people coming from India has been increasing, and coronavirus infections have started to increase due to their inability to manage them well, a holding centre has been set up at the border point. The India returnees have been sent to their respective districts from the centre now.
Chief District Officer of Banke Ram Bahadur Kurumwang said that the coronavirus transmission within the community had been controlled due to the good management of the holding centres. Those coming from India are being sent directly to their respective districts from the centre, he informed.
Plan International and Banke UNESCO Club have been distributing prepared food, water, masks and soap to those coming from India at the holding centre.
25-bed isolation centre in operation
Meanwhile, a 25-bed isolation centre has come into operation in Nepalgunj. The isolation centre has been brought into operation by the Banke District COVID-19 Crisis Management Committee.
A well-equipped isolation centre has been set up in the vacant building of Nepal Industrial Development Corporation at Adarshnagar in Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan Ward No. 10, said Kurumwang, CDO and coordinator of Banke District Covid-19 Crisis Management Committee.
The centre has on-call doctors, health workers, lab services, WiFi, television, yoga and other facilities.
